If you are a regular Pinterest user, you will see that the site is chocka full of Valentine’s ideas.

Do you do anything for Valentine’s for your toddlers or young kids? I haven’t in the past but thought I’d try something out which came to me one night in bed. Turning Oreo cookies into cute bumble bees. Why? Well because they are cute, yummy and toddlers will love them.

The downside I hear you ask?

Yep, they are a massive faff! If you are short on time then I absolutely don’t recommend you try these “Bee Mine” Oreos! Perhaps take a look at the Marmite Love bites or Pesto Heart Pinwheels instead!

If you are still with me and fancy trying out these cuties then here’s how I made them!

For Valentine’s Bee Mine Oreos, You will need:

Oreo cookies
Some flaked almonds
Yellow ready to roll icing
Red ready to roll icing
A circular cookie cutter approximately the same size as the Oreo, or slightly larger (you can trim the edges)
A small heart icing tool
An edible food pen. You can buy these online for a couple of pounds.

First arrange your Oreos miles away from the yellow icing. Trust me, the minute you pop the icing down, every speck of black Oreo will find its way onto the icing.

Next roll out your yellow icing until it’s a couple of millimetres thick.

Cut out a circle using the cookie cutter. Cut about a third of the way down this yellow circle, like this. And then cut again to make one strip. See:

Now, this is the fiddly bit. Pop the yellow half circle at one end of the Oreo to make the “face”. Pop the stripe towards the other end of the Oreo, leaving some of the cookie showing. Like this.

Basically you are making your bee. This bit can be fiddly though because the icing likes to pick up any rogue bits of Oreo. And I found the icing wouldn’t stick well to the cookie.
If you are having trouble, use a sharp knife to trim the icing to the Oreo.

For little wings, take two flaked almonds and carefully push them into the icing.

Take your heart icing cutter and punch a tiny heart out of the red icing.

Carefully place on the bee, between the wings.

And there you have your very own “Bee Mine” Valentine’s Oreo Cookies. Aren’t they super cute?! I love the bright colours and other than getting annoyed with the icing, these cute bees really cheered me up!
