Maternity Leave Second Time Around And 6 Reasons Why I’m Enjoying It Much More!

I won’t lie. I didn’t enjoy maternity leave with my first son that much. There were times when I did feel “happy” but overall I found it a massive shock to the system and a huge change. A change I just wasn’t mentally prepared for.

Second time around and I am enjoying maternity leave so much more. And today I’m sharing with you why. For more baby posts, take a look at my reasons why I love the newborn stage. And the reasons why it’s not so great, as well as my post on not having to “do it all” while on maternity. Can you relate?!

Cool as a Cucumber

I feel more relaxed. It’s true that I am so much more relaxed with the second. Things just don’t seem such a big deal.

Confidence is Key

I feel more confident. I know what I’m doing. Most of the time! I feel confident that when Lew is fed and clean, his grizzling likely means he is tired.

Going with the Flow

I’m not stressing the small stuff. So things like “what if he poos or needs to feed while we are out shopping?!” This used to stress me a lot with B. Now I just crack on with it. Many times after the school run, we pop into Morrison’s cafe for a quick feed before we do the shopping. And pooplosions? Yep we’ve had a few!

Fresh Air

I get out and about when I want to. With B I used to feel that just leaving the house was a huge deal. It’s different this time round as I have to leave the house. I need to get B to school on time. On a side note, this pram is my best buddy – the Infababy Halo stroller. It’s done so many miles to and from school now. You can read our full review of the Infababy Halo stroller here.

Friends

Last maternity leave I felt a lot of pressure to make new friends in the ten months or so I had off work. I used to trek to every group going. I was exhausted most of the time. Fast forward six years, I have a load of wonderful mum friends and I just can’t be bothered to go to hundreds of groups. Our one baby sensory class is enough.

Quite Days

Following on from above, I’m not doing a lot this time. And it is bliss. I’m a bit of a closest plane geek and I enjoy watching documentaries while Lew naps. Sad I know.

It will be my final maternity so i want to make the most of it. Yep, this is it for us. No number three here unless we have an accident. I want to make the most of being away from the office. I want to enjoy every moment watching both my kids grow. It’s been great walking B to school and being there for him at pick up too.
