40 Consumable Gift and Stocking Filler Ideas!

Hey there you lovely lot, how’s things? All set for Christmas? Spent a shed load of cash on crap you don’t really need? For the past few years I really haven’t spent a lot. We get the little man a few things but on the whole we’re pretty frugal when it comes to Christmas. We share a few ideas here for budgeting and gift ideas: 150 Non Toy Gift Ideas for Kids, 10 DIY Gift Ideas and 9 Tips for a Budget Christmas.

I watched the Martin Lewis money show a few weeks ago and his Christmas message is spot on. We really shouldn’t pressure ourselves into buying more and more if we can’t really afford it. And even if we can afford it, do we really need it?

Today on the blog I’m sharing with you the concept of “consumable gifts“. The hubby and I have made a pact to pretty much stick to consumables and things we will actually use for the past few years now.40 Consumable Gift and Stocking Filler Ideas - perfect for a Zero Waste Christmas!

What do I Mean by Consumable Gifts?

Well the word consumable says it all really. Gifts that are going to get used, whatever happens. So think edible gifts, bath and body gifts, things you’d actually buy through the year and use. So that’s what I mean when I say consumable.

Why Consumable?

Well I’d be buying these things in January or throughout the coming year anyway. So why not get them now, wrap them and pop them in a stocking? It’s a bit of fun yet it’s not more tat and crap we don’t really need.

OK, so give me some consumable examples then I hear you say!

Edible Gifts

The list is endless when it comes to edible gifts. Here are just a few ideas.

  1. Sweets and treats.
  2. Chocolates.
  3. Mince pies.
  4. A mini Christmas pudding.
  5. The classic satsuma.
  6. Nuts.
  7. Chutneys.
  8. Pickles.
  9. Lebkuchen treats (those gingery biscuits typically from Germany).
  10. Cheeses – remember to wrap and store in the fridge though.
  11. Coffee beans.
  12. Jam and marmalade.

Drinks

Also consider drinks when it comes to consumable gifts. Some of our favourites include:

  1. Whisky or Brandy.
  2. Any nice bottle of fizz – champagne, prosecco, cava.
  3. Flavoured Gin/Vodka.
  4. A little bottle of Chambord.
  5. Posh tonics – so think Fever Tree and any others that catch your eye.
  6. A favourite soft drink or treat drink – the hubby usually pops a Red Bull in my stocking. I know, I know.
  7. Craft beers.
  8. Flavoured ciders.
  9. Mixer packs for prosecco/gin.
  10. Infusions to add to gin/vodka.

Bath and Body

Unless you don’t wash, you’re always going to use bath and body gifts. Here are a few things we sneak in our stockings:

  1. Shower gels. They don’t need to be expensive ones. I always pop a few in Mr D’s stocking as I know we will use them.
  2. A new sponge/pouf.
  3. Hair gel/wax or whatever your other half uses.
  4. Bath bombs.
  5. Bubble Bath – I usually buy something silly that B will enjoy using too.
  6. Shaving foam.
  7. Aftershave/perfume.
  8. Cotton wool/face wipes.
  9. Face masks.
  10. Hand cream.
  11. Razor refills.
  12. Dry shampoo.
  13. Lip balm.

For the Home

And finally, some consumable ideas for around the house.

  1. Candles. We use them all year round. You can’t go too wrong.
  2. Diffusers or air fresheners
  3. Bird seed
  4. Batteries. The hubby games so he’s always going through batteries!
  5. Paracetamol/Ibuprofen. For any overindulgence ey.

And with that, you should be all set for a Christmas minus the tat. Any other consumable ideas, share them here in the comments or over on social! Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter!
