Kinetic Sand – Beach Sand Kingdom Review!

Kinetic Sand Beach Sand Kingdom review

Kinetic Sand Beach Sand Kingdom

Hey hey, how’s things? Life has been a bit up and down here – for another post and another day though.

Today on the blog we’re putting Kinetic Sand to the test, and specifically the Beach Sand Kingdom set. It feels a bit too summery for this time of year! Although it’s nice to be reminded of the holidays. If you’re looking to extend that summer, beach-feel then keep reading.

What is Kinetic Sand?

Kinetic Sand is basically a type of modelling sand. It looks like normal sand but behaves very differently in that it is kind of stuck together. You can mold it into shapes and squish and squash it. It doesn’t stick to other materials and in theory it should be mess-free.

It feels like it’s wet sand but it isn’t. It’s dry and doesn’t stick to your hands. Instead, it kind of “melts” through your fingers when you pick it up. Very odd but very satisfying!

In terms of ingredients, in this set I couldn’t find anything listed on the instructions. As per Wikipedia, it’s apparently made out of 98% real sand and 2% polydimethylsiloxane (huh?)- basically some sort of silicone.

It claims the sand doesn’t dry out but it does state on the instructions to store it in a sealed container.

What’s Included in the Beach Sand Kingdom?

There are loads of different Kinetic Sand sets to choose from. These include different coloured sands and various different tools and plastic moulds. This set contains the following:

  • A 1.4 kilo bag of Kinetic Sand
  • 6 sand moulds
  • 2 tools
  • 1 sand box

The box converts into a handy play area to keep your sand contained. You could use a tray or something else though if you wanted more space but to be honest, the box works really well.

Indoor Fun

We’ve played with other indoor modelling toys before and we really like this set. There’s enough sand to be able to squash it flat across the sand box. There’s plenty of tools to build sand castles and “dig”. B really enjoys making mini cities and generally moving the sand from one area to another. This was the case when we played with Kinetic Rock – which he still loves and plays with now! He loves building the rocks and then moving them with the digger.

All the sets are pitched as indoor fun and technically that is true. I find though that B likes to push and shove the sand about and often it does spill out of the sand box. It may be my child. I prefer to play with this type of toy either outside or on a large table indoors.

The sand does hold together really well though, better than other brands we’ve tried out. It’s not sticky and it doesn’t leave any residue on our hands.

Hours of Fun

Overall, we really like the Kinetic Sand range. As long as you store your sand in a container, you can literally play with it over and over again. This set comes with a good amount of sand and we love how the box transforms into a handy sand pit, play area. There is a good range of tools and moulds to play with as well. It’s a definite thumbs up from B!
