8 Activities Guaranteed to Keep the Whole Family Entertained This Christmas!
Keep Boredom at Bay!
Today on the blog we’re looking at different activities to keep the whole family entertained this Christmas! What with the long school holidays, I’m in need of ideas this year! I don’t know about you but my son doesn’t go back until the 8th of Jan. The 8th! Exactly! It’s halfway through bloody Jan!
So what can we do that won’t break the bank this Christmas?
Christmas Market Mooches
Even if you don’t want to buy anything, having a little mooch around the Christmas markets is always fun. I love the atmosphere and the sights and smells. It’s the perfect way to get into the festive spirit. Some of my favourite ones in the South West can be found here.
Now I’ve mentioned geocaching a lot on my blog and I shared a beginners guide for geocaching with toddlers here. If you’re not sure what it is, think global treasure hunt based on GPS. It’s great for getting the kids out and about and grown-ups will enjoy hunting for caches too! Keep tuned as well as Geocaching will sponsor one of our posts!
It costs nothing and you can do it literally anywhere. Yep, walking. Grab your welly boots or hiking shoes and get out and about. A quick google search of your area and “walks” should bring up some ideas. Head to your local beach, local woods or nature reserve. Go explore!
Christmas Light Spotting
It sounds silly but wrap up warm and head for a little walk around your housing estate this December. B loves seeing all the festive lights and it’s great for getting some fresh air if you’ve been stuck inside all day. Keep a look out for local estates that go all out at Christmas. We have Trinity Close in Burnham on Sea. The residents decorate their homes and donate the money from visitors to charity.
Home Cinema Evenings
There’s nothing nicer than snuggling up under some blankets, with a bowl of popcorn and a Christmas movie. We love doing this now that the nights are darker. And we can sneak in a whole film before bedtime!
Local Garden Centres
Even if you don’t really need anything, the local garden centres always have a lot on and a mooch round the Christmas section is fun with little ones. Grab a cuppa or some lunch in the café and perhaps visit the obligatory Santa’s grotto!
Ice skating has really taken off over the last few years. You’ll be hard pressed to find a town or city in the UK that doesn’t offer ice skating during November and December. I’m really excited about our local ice rink this year as it is set to be epic! It’s set to be the largest covered ice rink in the country, taking 500 skaters per session! There’s even an ice bar to enjoy too if you don’t fancy the skating. If you’re in Somerset this winter, definitely check it out here.
If you’re a regular reader then you’ll know that I’m no faff. As in I’m a bit lazy and I like things that are easy and require zero effort. Take for example these no-bake Oreo Cookie Christmas Puddings. They are so easy to make and the kids love making them. I popped into nursery last December to make them with pre school. They loved it!
