Making Science Fun for Toddlers at Mini Professors
Do you have a science mad toddler or child? B has always been interested in anything related to science and when I saw an ad for our local Mini Professors class, I knew I should give it a go! We already do quite a bit at home, from ice egg smashing to space stations.
Today on the blog I’m going to talk about our Mini Professor classes and share some of our photos. This isn’t a sponsored post but just a write up of something we do each week which has been really fun!
If you have a class in your area, try out the taster session for free. We love going every Friday and even I’ve learnt a few things too!
What is Mini Professors?
Mini Professors is a fun and interactive science class aimed at a range of ages. We go to the age 3-5 class on a Friday morning and we love it. The aim is to inspire young, creative minds and provide a fun environment for them to learn about science.
Each class follows the same format; We sing a short intro song, there is a short discussion about the theme, an experiment, a short film and story, a second experiment and then the goodbye song.
What type of things are covered?
Every week there is a new theme and the class is focused on that. Themes are varied and range from machines, maths, the digestive system, water pressure, deserts – if it’s science related, it may come up!
What about getting hands-on?!
Absolutely! we’ve made poo, we’ve counted, we’ve dug for fossils. Every week we do two experiments where the kids get to participate. And they love it, they really love it. One of the stand out classes for b was the digestive system. We made poo and demonstrated how it passes through the body at each stage.
So think mashed up Weetabix, green food dye for bile and a pair of tights…

Great for building confidence
When we first started going, b was quiet and wouldn’t shout out the answers. Now he’s been a few times, I can’t shut him up! He loves talking to Professor Beth and offering answers to the questions she poses. It’s been lovely seeing him develop over the weeks in terms of his confidence!
Encouraging Young Minds
Even if you don’t think your little one is interested in science, I really recommend going along because there is something for all kids. Last week the theme was “Maths”. I was useless at maths at school and had zero interest. But of course it’s all around us and Professor Beth presented the subject in a really nice way to inspire the little ones.
Our experiments saw us colour sorting and counting and then sorting by size. We also had fun throwing, catching and counting bean bags.
Does your child love science? Do you have a Mini Professors class in your area? You can find out more on their website here. We really love going and will miss it once b starts school in September!
