Space Explorers Building Set Review!
One thing that is certain in life right now, b loves space! He’s fascinated by all things planet, star and rocket related. He loves space so much, I created him a solar system fruit plate which you can take a look at here. And these BB8 sandwiches are pretty cute too.
When we were invited to review the Gears! Gears! Gears!® Space Explorers Building Set from Learning Resources, we were very excited!
The Space Explorers Building Set comprises 77 pieces in total, including gears, connectors, handles, planets, stickers and astronauts. Our set came with a number of base units too which you basically “build” your space station and scene on to. There are a number of stickers that you can stick on to the gears and various planet pieces. Here’s the hubby doing the sticking!
To get started we followed the instructions and built our space scene just like the one on the box.
There’s loads of scope for just going with the flow and designing your very own universe. You can’t go too wrong when slotting all the pieces together. Once you’ve constructed your universe, attach one of the handles and turn your gears. If you have them all lined up properly – a few times we didn’t – then you should see all the gears and planets turn together.
Learning through play
If you want a toy that is aimed at developing skills then this is one to consider. From counting and matching, colours and shapes, this set offers lots of opportunities for learning.
B is very nearly four and the set is aimed at four years and upwards. I would say he is still a tiny bit young to enjoy this toy on his own. He definitely needed help constructing his universe and making sure the gears and handles were in the right place. Without help he quickly got frustrated and started launching his own rockets!
Fortunately though daddy loves building things too and really enjoyed coming up with new creative universe ideas with b.
Daddy hasn’t been very mobile at the moment. He managed to snap his achilles a few weeks ago and life has been challenging. It’s crazy how much we take regular things for granted. Like just being able to stand and make a cup of coffee or head to the shower. So toys that don’t involve kicking a ball around the garden are ideal right now!
Supporting STEM learning
If you’re not familiar with STEM, let me explain. It stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. It’s all about getting youngsters interested in these areas. The Space Explorers Building Set is ideal for supporting STEM learning and getting your little ones interested in science and engineering.
Does your little one enjoy science fun at home? Have you played with this Gears! Gears! Gears!® Space Explorers Building Set? There are loads of different types that you can interlink too! Let me know your thoughts in the comments and be sure to pin for later too!
