Hello and welcome to me and b! Are you planning anything this Valentine’s? We don’t usually do a lot – film and something to eat. Today on the blog I share a super easy recipe which literally takes 5 minutes to prep – pesto pinwheel hearts. I don’t know about you but I love baking things that are fairly simple and require minimal faff. Along the same lines are these Marmite Love Bites for something a bit different 😉 Or if you fancy something sweet, check out the “Bee Mine” Oreos.
Want to make your own Pest Pinwheel Hearts?
All you need to get going is:
– A sheet of puff pastry
– Cheese – I use mozzarella. Any cheese would work though.
First up, roll out your pastry sheet. I recommend buying the pre-made, ready rolled type of pastry. It is super easy to use and just saves a lot of time.
Spread the pesto to the edge of your pastry.
Sprinkle over your cheese of choice.
Next, roll your pastry together from both sides – like this:
And now for the HEARTS
This is how you’re going to make the “heart” shape.
Roll it up tight and grab it in your hand like this:
Once the pastry is rolled together, take a sharp knife and slice it into 1cm (approx) slices. Don’t worry too much if the hearts loose their shape. You can mould them back to hearts on the baking sheet.
Pinch the bottom together to make heart shapes.
Bake in the oven for around 10 minutes on about 180c. Keep an eye on them because you don’t want the cheese to burn.
Have ten minutes this evening? Why not try these out.
They’d be perfect for any occasion to be honest, not just Valentine’s.
