Make Your Own DIY Beer Advent Calendar!
With Christmas fast approaching, it’s that time of year to start thinking about advent calendars. To be honest I’m not a huge fan of the cheapy chocolate ones. I don’t mind chocolate but there are other things I’d prefer. And I also find that if you spend 99p on a chocolate advent calendar, then you really do get 99ps worth of crap chocolate. After I had the little man, mr d made me a very special advent calendar – a mini bottle of wine for each day of December. Check it out, how cool is that?! Honestly, I was so in awe of his creativeness and it was such a sweet surprise. It’s no secret that I enjoy my wine and he’d put so much thought and effort into this. Top man!
Make your own and save!
Anyways so it got me thinking about what I could do for mr d this year. I purchased him a Whiskey calendar a few years ago and it set me back £150 – not cheap at all. I then saw an advert pop up on my Facebook feed for a craft beer advent calendar. Amazing I thought and clicked through – I don’t usually look at Facebook ads to be honest. When the landing page popped up, I saw the price. A whooping £75 for 24 beers. And not even big bottles at that! Over three quid for a measly beer. I knew I could do better myself. So I did.
Mr d loves ale and some of his favourite ales include Butcombe. And no it isn’t pronounced But-Come, as some of my friends in America think. He also loves Bath ales and the Hobgoblin gold. So with all this in mind, I kinda know what he likes and what he doesn’t.
So what do you need?
To make your own beer lovers advent calendar, this is what you need:
4 x cardboard wine carries
24 bottles or cans of beer. Whatever you know your partner likes. At the moment, Morrison’s do 4 ales for £6 which isn’t too bad. And they have a huge selection too.
Wrapping paper and gift tags.
I started wrapping each bottle properly but soon realised that if you cut the wrapping paper into small pieces, it naturally curved around the bottle. Like this:
I then popped the bottle and paper back into the carrier and stuck the top bit over. So the paper acts like a bit of a sleeve. You could wrap them properly – it makes no difference really!
Label your tags from 1 to 24 and stick them on as you go.
A Different Beer Every Day!
And voila, a beer lovers advent calendar just in time for December!
On a separate note, you probably want to pop your bottles in the fridge before opening them up, to ensure they are super duper cold and not lukewarm !
There you go, your own beer lovers calendar for under £40. Bargain and you’ll be super popular forever more.
