The Perfect Date Weekend – The Swan Hotel, Bibury
One of my favourite places to visit in the UK is the Cotswolds. I literally love this area so much. It is pretty and quaint and full of cosy pubs to while away a rainy afternoon by the fire. When mr D and I got engaged, we naturally started looking at places where we could get married. One place I fell in love with was The Swan hotel in Bibury.
We had a look around and although we absolutely loved it, we knew realistically it was a bit far for any evening guests. With that in mind, we popped it to the back of our minds and carried on with our search in Somerset.
I literally couldn’t stop thinking about how lush the hotel and the area was and pretty much insisted we book a couple of nights in the honeymoon suite there after our wedding. It was fab! The room was amazing. We loved it so much that mr D booked us one of the cottages for our anniversary last year! In fact it wasn’t just one of the cottages, it was the best they had hehe. Complete with it’s own garden and hot tub!
And here is my review of it. To note, I am not affiliated with the hotel at all. This is simply a write up of our very fab time. If you are looking for somewhere romantic to spend a honeymoon or anniversary weekend, then this should definitely be on your list!
Why I love the Swan at Bibury:
The beds are sumptuously amazing. And I literally never use the word “sumptuous” but it seems very fitting when describing the beds here!
The detail and décor is just spot on. It is completely luxurious and the grey and mustard yellow décor of our cottage last summer completely inspired my latest master bedroom decorating ideas!
Beautiful Rooms and Decor
The bathrooms. They are completely luxurious and just make you want to take a bath or shower all weekend! The Swan provide complimentary Molton Brown products in all their bathrooms and it just makes the whole washing experience that extra special. I’m a bit obsessed with Molton Brown products now – oops!
The food is great. You can opt to dine in the bar or the restaurant. Both d and I aren’t very adventurous so a beer and burger usually do us just fine. We actually ordered food and had it delivered to our cottage with a bottle of champagne. Completely perfect for us.
The location is fab. There isn’t an awful lot happening in Bibury if I’m honest. Yes it is pretty. Yes you have Arlington Row and it is all very quaint. But overall, other than the streets being flooded with tourists and coaches, there isn’t loads to see and do here.
Great Location for Exploring the Cotswolds
It does, however, provide a base for exploring the rest of the Cotswolds and surrounding villages. You aren’t far from Broadway, Bourton-on-Water and even larger places like Cheltenham and Oxford. For a more in-depth Cotswolds write up, check out this post.
There are also some beautiful walks in the area. Pre b we used to walk a lot and literally plan weekends away around walking maps! If you want to explore the countryside then Bibury is a great base.
Fab breakfast. I’m not usually a big breaky fan but the breakfasts at The Swan are completely worth getting up for. They serve beans in a little dish! How cute is that haha! The eggs are cooked just as I like them and the selection of jams and juices are great. For someone who typically doesn’t “do” breakfast, this is one I do want to do haha.
The bar and outside seating area is really cosy and lovely. We visited The Swan when we found out we were pregnant. I think it was the first time EVER that we ordered a pot of tea and a lemonade at a bar after midday!! Next time we visited was post-b and it was prosecco all the way.
You should definitely save The Swan for a date weekend or special occasion – it’s not somewhere you want a toddler tagging along if you can help it!
Have you been to the Cotswolds? Have you ever been to The Swan? Or is there another place or hotel in the UK that would be your perfect weekend away without the kids?!
Disclaimer: There is none! Both times we’ve been to The Swan have been fully paid for! And it isn’t a cheap break – but, in my opinion, it is worth every relaxing ,toddler-free, penny.
