Five Items for Babies That I Wouldn’t Bother Buying Again!
I’m sure there are a billion of these types of posts out there if I go searching but I wanted to write my own as a reminder to myself, IF we ever decide to be crazy and have another bubba one day. These are the things I “rush” purchased/borrowed or requested as gifts (because family asked!) and I really did not need to. On the flip side, here are the 5 items which were bloody brilliant! Perfect for getting through early motherhood and the realities of maternity leave!
1- An umbrella for the pram
I got a regular black one that was supposed to clip on to the pram and shade the baby. It was bloody useless. Never again. Hair clips, muslin cloth – job done.
2- A gro-thermometer thingy
I know a lot of people find these useful but I hated ours. It was constantly orange or red, which meant I constantly felt like my baby would die. Our house is usually very warm and B was a summer baby. Also, the stupid thing would never stand up very well. We had a thermometer on the monitor. That was enough!
3- The backpack/lead thingy so your child doesn’t go missing
I get the concept and in theory it would work really well if you have a child that likes to wander. When B was at the walking stage, he just wanted to be carried. I think we used his turtle backpack thing three times. Brand new, anyone want it? 😉
4- Shoes that weren’t from Clarks between sizes 3 and 8
B has pretty wide feet – a size G. I’ve found (through making multiple purchasing mistakes) that any type of non-Clarks shoe just don’t fit him well. Now his feet are a little bigger, some trainer type shoes fit well, but otherwise in the early days, it was money well wasted.
5- The Bumbo
I didn’t purchase this and I’m pleased I didn’t. My sister had one and she gave it to me (because she also didn’t use it much). I know people will disagree but on the whole, I really didn’t use it much. The hubby and I tried it out, multiple times. We really wanted to like it as the concept is great but we always found that b would arch his back and try to get out of it. And he hated the tray table too. It was useful at the very early stages of weaning as per the photo below but I wouldn’t say it was an essential for me. I found it easier to pop b on my lap!
Do you have any baby bits that you would never buy again?! Or did you find all of the above super useful – maybe it was user error on my part haha. Or mummy-brain! I did find some products really useful and I share those for you in this post here.
Don’t forget to PIN this post for later, and be sure to share with all your friends on Facebook who are expecting any time soon 😉
