Food picks are my go-to when making food fun for b. I find they really help encourage be to try new things too. We often play “games”, seeing what food we can “spear” next. We also sometimes arrange our food into well known “stories” – think We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and The Gruffalo 😉
Here are some pointers on food picks – where to find them, how to use them.
When to use food picks
We use picks for literally loads of foods, from breakfast, lunch, picnics, snacks and meals. Even using them to spear veggies during a roast can be the difference between b eating most of his meal or not. If you have a picky eater, try a pick!
Where to buy food picks
I typically pick up food/cocktail sticks at the following places:
- Pound shops
- Home Bargains
- B&M Bargains
- The Range
- Ebay – for anything very specific or fancy, ebay is a great place to start. Search for “food pick” “cocktail sticks” and “cocktail or party accessories”
Why bother using food picks?
I started using food picks with B’s meals when he was around 18 months. You may be thinking that is way too young to introduce a child to a stick with a point at the end. I used to chop the sharp end off and I would always supervise while he was using the food pick. I still do!
Here are a selection of the picks I use:
There are literally so many ways you can use food picks to liven up a meal! Have you tried any of these ideas?
