Is it just me or do Garden Centres make fantastic free(ish) days out with kids?! Please say yes because sometimes I feel like my only joy of the weekend is trundling around yet another garden centre – we love Cadbury’s in North Somerset! And I’m not even a gardener. In fact I’m useless.

Anyways, so every now and then we go and visit my parents back in St Albans. This is where I grew up and this is where my parents still live today. We usually only go for one night because b is such a shit bags monkey regarding sleep away from home. And we also have four cats. I can get away with an electronic feeder for one night but two nights is pushing it.

The thing with cats is they get majorly pissed if you go away for any length of time. Two nights equals torrents of piss, puke, poo and whatever else they can excrete. Great. So one night it is. And last weekend Mr D and I agreed we would not get stressed, huffy, or puffy if we only got one hour of sleep. Due to B by the way, nothing else 😉 For the record, B slept AMAZING in his new Thomas bed!

Heading East!

So off we trot, M4 east bound and we make good time. We get to St Albans around 10am. Yep, we did leave Weston at half 7. We were up at bloody half 6 so why not ey. This is an advantage of having a toddler wake up call. We are up and out and can enjoy the whole day. I love going to mum and dads as they have the most amazing garden – take a nose here. It truly is beautiful!

B absolutely loves his Nana!

Mum had planned a day to Van Hage garden centre in Amwell. I’ve never been before so it was new to me. And honestly, it was the best garden centre we’ve been to for ages!

They have a whole farm park area, for free! And the East Herts miniature railway which B absolutely loved.

All aboard!

B was a bit cautious of these goats at first but Granddad helped him gain his confidence!

The playhouses and sheds are always enticing for littles as well. B enjoyed going in every single one!

If you are in the area, I def recommend a visit. It’s free – pretty much. The train cost a quid each 😉 And we did buy a few ice creams 😉
