So last weekend I wasn’t feeling the best and anyone who knows me, knows that I’m not a huge fan of children’s birthday parties. Prefix party with “soft play” and my tolerance falls even lower. Tips for surviving soft play you can find here! Fortunately Coate water country park saved the day!
I know they are supposed to be fun and all but I find them insanely dull and there is always a bloody hoo-ha with my son. He’s crapped his pants, he’s fallen over, he wants food before the food comes out, he tries to eat the birthday cake (why display the cakes before the sandwich bit of the party?!) and so it goes on. They are never relaxing. But last Sunday was different. Different because the party was for our best friend’s little girl. Let’s call her little I.
So off we trundled, over to the Reading area. We set off early as b was in a mood and just wanted to go. An impromptu stop near Swindon turned out to be truly lovely. We stumbled upon Coate Water Country Park. I urge you to check it out if you are in the area. It really was fab. You can buy little pots of bird seed for 50p, there was a children’s play area and even a miniature railway! Result!
After stopping here for an hour or so, we headed off. The party started at half one. Mr d has this bizarre ability to turn up a minute early, literally where ever we go. We call it the “Taken 2” effect
We got lost and we still ended up early! Anyways, so the party was fine, made even more so because b seemed to be enjoying himself. The best bit for me, seeing all the yummy food my friend had prepped for the kiddies! She isn’t typically one for doing this type of stuff so I was super super impressed! Check out these sandwich snakes and rainbow fruit salads! The kids absolutely loved them 🙂
